Nestled west of the picturesque Berthoud, Colorado, Blue Mountain Vineyards captures the essence of small-town charm and community spirit. Berthoud, affectionately known as the “Garden Spot of Colorado,” is surrounded by lush farmland and radiates the local warmth we cherish. As a small, dedicated operation, we focus on being a positive force in the local communities that support us.
Our winery and vineyard rest against the scenic foothills of the Indian Peaks Wilderness and Rocky Mountain National Park. Originally a pasture, our land now boasts a vibrant vineyard, numerous trees, and beautiful gardens. Our lake is a haven for various water birds, regularly visited by majestic golden and bald eagles, and in summer, an impressive osprey showcasing its fishing skills. The ancient cottonwoods along the lake’s edge provide a perfect roosting spot for Great Horned owls. We delight in sharing our passion for winemaking, our vibrant community, and the natural beauty of Colorado.
The Garden
Beyond our vineyard and winery, our property features breathtaking gardens, a testament to Christie’s dedication and passion for gardening. These gardens are a riot of color, with plants blooming from early spring until the first hard frost. The extensive gardens include arbors adorned with silver lace, trumpet vines, and honeysuckle. Our diverse collection boasts over 55 species of trees, totaling more than 600, alongside over 50 species of shrubs, and countless annuals and perennials. Designed for both beauty and to attract a variety of birds, the gardens are a must-see. During the warmer months, we invite you to embark on a self-guided tour to fully experience the gardens’ splendor.
In winter, while the gardens lie dormant, we meticulously plan for spring planting. We aim to develop the preliminary gardens between the winery and the lake, making them available for touring and picnics even during the dormant season.
