When Koerner and Joan Rombauer relocated to Napa Valley in 1972 with their two kids, two horses, and five dogs, they were already familiar with the organic connection between wine and food. Koerner’s German forebears have strong roots in the Rheingau wine area, and his great aunt Irma Rombauer authored the well-known cookbook The Joy of Cooking.
Rombauer Vineyards was founded by Koerner and Joan in 1980, and their first California-style Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon wines were launched in 1984. After more than 40 years, the winery has gained widespread recognition for its unique, fruit-forward renditions of these well-loved types and more.
